Take the Pledge
It starts with each of us taking the pledge to do little things in our own daily lives to better the planet we live on. Simple things like turning off the lights and using a less water each day really add up. Take the pledge as an individual or make the commitment to living a more sustainable life as a class, organization or group.

Increase Resource Efficiency
- Turn off lights, computers, and electronics when not in use
- Adjust thermostats
- Use rechargeable batteries
- Set electronics to use energy saver features
- Combine orders to reduce the number of deliveries
- Wash clothes in cold water
- Save water with low flow shower heads and other water saving products
- Replace incandescent lights with efficient compact fluorescent lamps
- Purchase Energy Star or other types of energy rated products
- Use email instead of the mail
- Use both sides of paper when making copies
Choose to Re-Use
- Use reusable mugs (coffee, soda, etc...)
- Use reusable bags instead of plastic
- Pack lunches in reusable containers
- Buy products made from recycled materials
- Print drafts on the back side of used paper
- Make note pads from used paper
- Donate used equipment and furniture
- Compost organic materials
Recycle
- Recycle plastic, paper, glass, aluminum, and cardboard
- Recycle disposable batteries
- Recycle toner cartridges and replace with recycled cartridges
- Use paper made from recycled materials
Reduce Harmful Impacts on the Environment
- Reduce pollution
- Reduce energy consumption
- Reduce waste
- Purchase products from companies that reduce pollution, waste, and energy consumption
Use Education as a Tool
- Learn more about being Green by participating in Green/Sustainable training programs and classes
- Apply green concepts at home and with members of your family
- Investigate new technologies and ways to help the environment
- Help your school, university or community organize events that teach others Green concepts and practices
Each person can pick and choose whatever initiatives that best fit with what they can do. The most important thing is for everyone to commit to doing something to improve the environment in the communities in which they live, work, and recreate.
