Have students design and enforce ways to recycle in the classroom and at school

Lesson Objectives
- Identify items that can be recycled
- Develop strategies for recycling at school
Lesson Activities
- Using the cube, have students brainstorm and record ideas for recycling at school.
- Have students decorate boxes to place in the classroom or main hallways to recycle paper, batteries, and printer cartridges.
- Have students check the internet for recycling programs in the area such as stores that pay for recycled printer cartridges or soda cans with deposits.
- (Optional) Students can use the internet to identify a local charity to donate any income they make.
Have students develop class presentations with displays based on the recycling side of the cube

Learning Objectives
At the end of activity students will be able to:
- Learn how to use the internet and other sources to gather information
- Identify ways to save electricity, energy and water
- Apply efficiency concepts at home
- Participate is small and large group discussions
- Organize and present main ideas
Lesson Activities
- Break the class into project teams.
- Teams are assigned one of the five recycling area: Plastic, Paper, Aluminum, Cartridges and Batteries, and Glass
- Teams need to need to expand on the tasks provided on the efficiency side of the cube by gathering information and developing a 10 minute class presentation with appropriate displays on ways individuals and homes impact the Earth's health by recycling.
Have students develop a list of home recycling tips

At the end of activity students will be able to:
- Gather information
- Learn recycling saving tips and facts
- Learn ways individuals can increase recycling
- Learn how to use the internet to gather information
Lesson Activities
- Have students search the internet to find home recycling tips and facts.
- Have students also generate a list of web links that provide recycling programs and educational activities.
- Write a theme on recycling
Have students calculate recycling impacts

Lesson Objectives
At the end of activity students will be able to:
- Learn how to use the internet to gather information
- Learn how much landfill space is used for each ton of paper thrown away
- Learn ways to reduce waste placed in landfills
- Use math to calculate landfall space filled in 1 year by the class and their families.
Lesson Activities
- Using charts calculators available on the internet have the class calculate the amount paper used by one person each day. Have each student calculate consumption of his/her family
- Expand process to include calculations for a week, a month, and a year,
- Calculate paper consumed by the entire class in tons.
- Calculate cubic feet needed each year based on tons of paper sent to the landfill.
- Brainstorm ways individuals can reduce paper in landfills.
- Using internet sites identify paper saved based on implementing one or two ideas and complete the calculation again for a day, week, month, and a year.
